How thick is a penis?
A: A penis is about 4.5 inches in circumference, or about 1.5 inches in diameter. (Taken from Sexual Interactions.)
Q: How big is a normal-sized dick for a 13 year old?
A: This can vary widely. Some 13-year-old boys are already fairly mature and will have a nearly adult-sized penis (about 6 inches long when erect). However, others will still have yet to begin puberty and will have a much smaller penis. Whatever size you are at 13, you will probably not stay that way! And the smaller you are, the more you have to grow. Most 13-year-olds are probably beginning to mature but haven?t gotten very far along yet. Their penises may be three or four inches long when erect. However, each boy is different.
Q: Why do guys always itch/pull/touch their crotches!? Especially in gym class?? Does “size” contribute to how much they “pick”?
A: I talked to my brother about this one. He says that sometimes, things just move where they aren’t supposed to, and you have to readjust them. Guys tend not to be as self-conscious as women (in general), so they just go ahead and do this in public. But the reasoning is pretty simple, apparently. “The package” has escaped/moved/is uncomfortable (especially if they’re wearing boxers, so it doesn’t stay as nicely right in front), and needs to be put back into position. Size is not really related (that I know of), although guys with larger penises may have more “escapes.” If they have a penis, it will need to be adjusted! Penis size and male stamina is a controversial issue though.
Q: How big are a guy’s balls supposed to be, and should they be uneven?
A: A guy’s testes, when he is young, are only the size of marbles. When he hits puberty, however, they double or triple in size. They may be about the size of a ping-poing ball (slightly smaller). Also, they are not really round; they are oval shaped. This may account for an “unevenness.”
Q: Can a penis grow larger if you use oil?
A: Each penis has a particular size that it is when erect. No matter what you use on it, it will never get any larger than this. It may appear larger sometimes because there is more stimulation involved; so the penis becomes fully erect (it is possible for a penis to be erect but not at its full size).
Q: What is a wet dream, and can woman do it, too?
A: A wet dream is when a man ejaculates in his sleep. It’s not because of an erotic dream; it happens randomly to pubescent guys. Women can’t exactly do it, because they don’t ejaculate (in the same way as men). However, both men and women frequently become sexually aroused during dreams (all dreams, not just sexual ones) and can experience nighttime orgasms this way.
Q: What exactly is an orgasm for a guy? Is it when he gets hard? Or when he ejaculates?
A: It is when he ejaculates. An orgasm is your sexual climax, and ejaculation is that climax for the guy. More male sexual stamina means better climax pleasure. That’s why people go for male enhancement.
Q: I think I have two dicks, how can I tell?
A: This is pretty much impossible. If there were something wrong with your anatomy, it’s likely that the doctors would have noticed it at birth or since then. However, if you are actually concerned with some part of your anatomy that’s changed since puberty, either talk to your doctor or ask a more specific question. Having two penises likely isn’t the problem.
Q: What’s a boner?
A: It’s a slang term for an erection of a man’s penis.
Q: Do you use a condom while giving head?
A: It is highly recommended to use a condom to prevent against STDs and HIV. If you don’t like the taste (and most people don’t) there are flavored condoms you can buy. Or, you can use a non-lubricated and add your own food (honey or jam). Just be sure the food is NOT oil based. It can “eat” through the latex. If you choose not to use a condom, be sure to stop before he ejaculates. Please keep in mind this is not 100% safe.
Q. There are many different condoms, which one should I choose?
A. Choosing a condom is one of personal preference. The two major types of condoms are latex and polyurethane. When possible you should use the latex, they are thicker and less likely to break. Within the materials, there are many different styles … ribbed, sensitive, lubricated etc. That’s where there isn’t too much difference for the men … (so I’ve been told). It’s more for the woman’s pleasure. Only you know what feels good to you, it’s basically a matter of trial and error.
Q. Should I consider a condom as an ordinary product when I buy it?
A. I’m not exactly sure what you mean … but you don’t have to buy them in a particular part of the store. It is an important purchase, although ordinary.
Q. I’m 16 and jack-off about 4-5 times a week. I orgasm fine, but I still have yet to have a wet dream. Why is that?
A. It is normal for boys to have wet dreams, it is also normal to NOT have them. There is nothing wrong with you, so don’t worry.
Q. I am an 18 year old male who had mono a month ago. Can my girl get mono if I go down on her; oral sex?
A. There is good news and bad. The good new is I don’t think you can transfer mono through oral sex. The bad news is mono can stay in your system for up to 6 months. And chances are, if you are having oral sex and foreplay, you are kissing. Mono is also known as the “kissing disease”. Also, it is very contagious. Sharing straws, pillows, you name it. So, be careful. If you or she is concerned, give your doc a ring.
Q. If the hymen is never popped and you stick your dick in an inch, is that considered having sex? Can you say you lost your virginity to that?
A. I guess it depends on your specific beliefs. Not every hymen breaks. An inch isn’t very far, so I would tend to think no. But for some people if its past the vagina lips, it counts. Some people think it has to be all the way in with repetitive thrusting. Some people become “born again virgins”. I don’t think there is a clear cut answer on that one, just whatever you think. Technically, though, if a vagina has been penetrated by a penis, neither of those two people are virgins anymore.
Q: Whenever I engage in any form of sexual activity, not just intercourse, I come really fast. Is this normal?
A: I?m not sure if you are a male or female, so I?ll try to make this applicable either way. Most of the time, this is a problem in men, especially teenagers. It?s common, affecting 30% of men at some point in their lives. It?s a known problem in women, although usually much less common. So in that regards, it is normal. There are also ways to treat premature ejaculation/coming too soon. One of the most effective ways is a ?stop-and-start? technique. Try it out when you?re masturbating, and once you get the hang of it, apply it during intercourse and other sexual activity. What you want to do is stimulate yourself, in a relatively slow and controlled manner. When you feel yourself getting close to orgasm, stop. Focus on thinking about what the Yankee?s starting lineup will be this year, the song order on Nirvana?s first album, whatever you want as long as it?s completely nonsexual. Let the initial feelings of your orgasm pass, without completion, and then start again. You?ll essentially be starting over, and can continue to ?stop and start? as needed. You can do the same thing during intercourse. With practice, it?ll become less work and more second-nature to adjust the stimulation in order to last as long as you feel you need to. Which brings up the point that ?really fast? is, of course, relative. And as long as you and your partner work out a way that everyone leaves, happy, then the actually times don?t really matter.
Q: I keep having physical urges about this girl. I feel attracted to her, and I want to do “stuff” with her. Is this normal?
A: I believe it is. Women and their bodies are very sensual. I am married with a child and I myself sometimes have urges about women. I wouldn’t worry about it.
Q: Is sex without a condom real sex?
A: Yes. And it is real dangerous. Please use condoms. Sex is sex, with or without a condom. If your boyfriend tries to tell you that he wants to have “real” sex with you, and that sex with a condom on isn’t real sex, he’s lying. He’s only trying to get out of wearing a condom. Make him wear one, or you’re in danger of pregnancy and STDs.
Q: I’m 17 years old and my GF and I don’t have sex, but we do about everything else. I thought I knew where the “clit” was, but I can’t seem to find it on her. I’ve always been told the “general direction” but never anything clear. Where is my GF’s clit?
A: The clitoris is the “button” shaped “flap” of skin that can sometimes protrude slightly from outside the vaginal lips. For more info. See the sites “Female Sexual Health”, the fifth item is female anatomy and you will find a diagram.
Q: What is the average sperm count of a typical teenage guy?
A: Overall, the average sperm count for men of any age is thought to be 70-100 million sperm per ml. The guidelines for infertility consider anything over 20-40 million/ml to be “normal.” Other studies have shown that the sperm count doesn’t begin to cause infertility until it gets down to 12.5 million/ml. A Brazilian study in 2002 checked sperm counts in normal 17 year olds, and they found an average of 47-66 million sperm/ml. It’s important to note that there seems to be some degree of variation in sperm count depending on where in the world you live. It also takes about two days to replenish a full sperm count following ejaculation, so if you ejaculate more often the sperm count will be lower.
Q: Why do I have cloudy urine after masturbation? (I’m a male)
A: Your semen and urine both come out the urethra, the tube that opens at the end of your penis. There are glands that release a sort of sterilizing fluid into the urethra, to prevent urine from contaminating the semen as it passes through. But there’s no real system to clean up the semen that may be left behind in the urethra. The body will just reabsorb it, but if you urinate right after masturbating it may seem cloudy. As long as it isn’t always cloudy (like when you haven’t masturbated in a while), then it’s normal. Urine that’s always cloudy no matter what can be a sign of a bladder or kidney infection.
Q: Is it common for adolescent males to have swollen breasts. If so what causes this?
A: It’s actually a very common problem. The medical term for it is gynecomastia, and when it happens in adolescents it is almost always caused by the fluctuating hormone levels in your body. It can also be a side effect of some medications, so if that’s relevant check into it. The breast tissue enlargement will resolve on its own, usually within a year or so. Surgery is an option, but only if they are very large and don’t seem to be going away.
Q: How do guys get horny?
A: It depends on what he likes. It usually doesn’t take much. Kissing, touching, you name it.
Q: My girlfriend and I have tried to have sex a couple times but I always lose my erection right before it happens. I have no problem getting erections but need to know what I can do to prevent this from happening again because it is extremely demoralizing and it’s all I can think about every time we get close now.
A: First thing you need to do, and I know it will be hard (no pun intended) is NOT think about what has happened in the past. It will only add pressure and complicate things. I think just keep trying and have both you and her involved constantly. Touching, kissing, caressing. It’s difficult when you are getting intimate and then have to stop to “put it in”, maybe just get close to her and have her guide it in. If this doesn’t help, maybe it’s your body’s way of telling you you’re not ready. Sorry!
Q: I am 13 and am very horny. I masturbate at least once a day and fantasize constantly about girls. I get erections for no reason, and have used pornography once. Despite all of this, I am still unbelievably shy around girls. I want to find a nice girl and spend time with her, but I am worried that a) I won’t find one, and b) my libido will cause me to screw it up. What can I do?
A: Take a deep breath and try to relax. What you are going through is totally normal. Guys get erections all the time (for no reason) and masturbate a lot. There are a ton of girls out there, many of whom feel the same way — that they won’t meet anyone, they are too shy etc. Just keep doin’ what you’re doin’ and know that it will all work out. Everyone at your age is shy and feels awkward, that’s part of growing up. Just be sure to respect boundaries and you’ll be just fine. Talk to some girls around you at school. If you’re shy, go for the ones that seem really quiet. Likely, they feel the same way you do. Always remember to approach a girl as a person, and not as a GIRL. Once you start talking to them, you’ll find it’s not so bad. Become friends with girls, and then see what happens down the road.
Q: When you give you guy a hand job and it hurts afterwards (burns), what does that mean?
A: It could mean that the penis was rubbed too hard and it is just sensitive. Next time try a little less pressure or try some lubrication (KY-jelly is a good source). The penis is very sensitive, so you definitely want to use some kind of lubrication.
Q: I’ve almost had sex twice, but both times I right before we were about to do it, I lost my erection and couldn’t get it back. The first time I don’t know why it happened but the second time I know it was because I was thinking about it too much. It’s extremely embarrassing and I don’t know what to do. Could you tell me because I really don’t want it to happen again and it’s beginning to depress me.
A: First thing you need to do, and I know it will be hard (no pun intended) is NOT think about what has happened in the past. It will only add pressure and complicate things. Maybe trying it with the lights off (or on, if they are usually off), I think just keep trying and have both you and her involved constantly. Touching, kissing, caressing. It’s difficult when you are getting intimate and then have to stop to “put it in”, maybe just get close to her and have her guide it in. If this doesn’t help, maybe it’s your body’s way of telling you you’re not ready. Sorry!
Q: How long can sperm last outside a boy’s body?
A: If they’re kept in some sort of moist environment, probably about 3-6 hours max. Once the semen starts to dry out, though, the sperm are done for, which means that without special effort, they’re usually dead in 1-2 hours, at most. (Of course, in the warm, moist, female reproductive tract, they live up to five days.)
Q: Me and my boyfriend have tried many times to have sex but as soon as we take off our clothes, are in bed and he’s ready to go inside me, he gets very excited and cums. Then he isn’t in the mood for it anymore. How do I get him to at least wait until he’s inside me and we’ve had sex for awhile?
A: It may take time to get used to it. Some things you might try and having sex with your clothes on (wear a short skirt and no panties - or sweats). Or after he does climax, give him a little bit of time and then make some moves to get him aroused again. If it keeps happening, tell him to think about baseball or something else that’s non-sexual. This can delay orgasm by decreasing his excitement level. It can also make it better in the end. Discuss this with him and see how he feels about it.
Q: I’m sixteen and have a pretty small dick in terms and length and girth even more. I?ve gone through pretty much every part of puberty the only things I?m missing is facial hair and a large dick. I was just curious if this meant that 1) I won?t grow facial hair and 2) if my penis won?t grow?
A: Both of your concerns are, ultimately, going to be decided by your genes. Facial hair can often take until the late teens or even early twenties to really come in with the thickness and the rate of growth of an adult. How much facial hair you get, and how fast it will grow, can vary a lot from person to person. Some people can?t grow a beard/mustache/goatee to save their lives, others shave every morning and have a ?five o?clock shadow? by noon. As for your penis size, that?s going to be genetically determined too. And, although it?s possible that it will grow a little bit more, your erection is probably as big as it?s going to get. Although I?m not sure if it?s of any consolation, realize that size isn?t everything. The majority of the nerve endings that convey sexual sensations from a woman?s vagina are located in the clitoris and the outer couple inches of the vagina. So, while I?m sure there?s some sort of difference, it?s certainly possible to be ?good in bed,? regardless of size.
Q: I’m 16 and my penis is on the small side and I haven’t begun to grow facial hair except for a faint mustache. Besides this I have gone through every part of puberty. I was just wondering if this meant that my penis wouldn’t get any bigger and if I won’t get facial hair.
A: For starters, facial and body hair on men can vary considerably from one man to the next due to ethnicity and genes. Also, your body will continue to grow and mature until you are about 20 though the fastest part will happen during your teenage years. Just like females, every male is different. Some males start maturing physically early, others later. Some mature mentally faster or early than others. Penis size is the number one sexual health questions for boys but it is hard to give a solid answer do to the vast differences between males. Increased growth of the penis and scrotum often starts at about age 13. It is largely believed penis sizes peeks at around age 17. Keep in mind, there is a fair degree of variation in the age for genital development from one boy to the next. If you are concerned about your development, please visit your doctor. Your doctor will be able to give you better medical and development advice based on your personal growth and family history.
Q: How do I know if my penis isn’t going to grow anymore?
A: Men will, on average ,peek at age 17. Every body is different but all growth normally is finished when you reach adulthood, around age 20.
Q: What is the average penis size for a 12 year old?
A: Here is a quote from the video library, by Donald E. Greydanus, MD. ?The size of your penis is simply determined by factors, called genetic traits, which you inherited from your parents. There is nothing you can do to increase or decrease the size of your penis — it will develop into its adult size as you change from a boy to a man through the process called puberty. Most boys start the changes of puberty between 10 and 14 years of age, though a few will start earlier or later than these ages. First, the testicles (balls) begin to enlarge and then hair starts to grow around the them. The penis then starts to enlarge, first in length and then later in thickness. Though there is much normal variation, the final penis size is reached four to six years after the testicles first started to enlarge.? In other words, it?s almost impossible to tell. Don?t worry, your body will grow a penis perfect for your overall body size.
Q: I’ve been reading a lot of these questions, and a few have been talking about pre-come. What is it? What does it mean to pre-come?
A: It’s sort of like the warning shot. A man ejaculates a small amount of semen called pre-come. Soon there after, he will ejaculate fully. (And yes, it is possible to get pregnant from the pre-come.) The precome is a clear fluid that will appear on the tip of his penis like a drop of water. It functions, biologically, to clear any acidic urine from his penis so that it doesn’t kill the sperm that will soon follow.
Q: Every time I start having sex with a new girl, I get nervous because my penis is small and I don’t want the girl to find out, but at the same time I want her to touch it. I say can you not tell anyone about the size and so far it has worked. Is that all I can do?
A: You need a self esteem boost! A lot of men think they are small or smaller than average. It’s not always true. Obviously, I can’t tell you about the size of your penis - but don’t let on to anyone that you think it is small. See what happens if you don’t say anything. You might hear how big you are! And even if you are on the small side, Napoleon was reputed to have a one-inch penis (while erect!), and he got plenty of women. So don’t worry so much!
Q: Hi. What happens if I get a boner during my sports physical? I think I’m to scared to get my physical because of this, or I don’t want the doctor to touch me. Thanks for answering my question.
A: I think it would be highly unlikely to get an erection during a physical, as stress tends to make it difficult to become aroused. In any event, if that did happen, the physical is preformed by a doctor who has certainly seen it before. There is nothing to be embarrassed about. I know it is uncomfortable, but s/he has to make sure everything is okay with you. Also, if you’re really afraid it will happen, try thinking about baseball or something totally non-erotic. This should help.
Q: I want to have sex but I have eczema, not much but would a girl be disgusted or what?
A: Not necessarily. Especially if it’s not a lot, I wouldn’t worry about it. If a girl is worried about it, just assure her that it’s not contagious. Also, keep up whatever treatments you’re on for it to minimize its appearance.
Q: Why do girls like guys to be big down there?
A: Everyone has his or her own preferences. Some girls like their partners to be long, some don’t, just like some guys like large breasts, or long legs. And keep in mind that the average length of a male penis is about 5 ??, so don?t feel inadequate if you?re not ten inches long.
Q: I have little red bumps on the end of my penis. Are they contagious? Is it herpes, and is there a cure for it?
A: Well, it sounds like something. Without seeing it, though, it’s hard for me to say. It does sound like you may have some sort of infection, though, so go see a doctor who can take a look and make a diagnosis.
Q: Can you get an STD on your genital (penis) by kissing?
A: Although kissing is a relatively low risk activity (compared to intercourse), it is possible to transmit hepatitis B, herpes and syphilis. I would suggest you both get checked out and never kiss when either of you has a sore in your mouth. If you got herpes by kissing, you would have oral herpes, and it would appear around your mouth, not on your penis. Oral sex, though, could transfer it to someone’s genitals.
Q: What if you are 14 and your penis is less than 2 inches?
A: Being worried about the size of his penis is completely normal, and I’d be willing to bet there are very few men who didn’t give this some thought at some point in their early lives. The fact is, though, that most men are somewhere in the ‘adquate’ range, and all but the freakishly large or the very, very small can satisfy himself and his partner. Here’s some quick numbers for reference. The average male penis size (18 and older) is about 3.5 inches flaccid/unaroused, and 6.5 inches erect/aroused. The statistics seem to indicate that there’s less variation in the erect length when compared to the unaroused length, which suggests that, regardless of where your size is at rest, when aroused most men end up in the same ballpark. Specifically for you, I’ll assume that your 2″ measurement is of your non-erect penis. This does put you on the lower end of the spectrum, but in reality the more important number is the aroused length. If that’s adequate, and it most likely is, then you’re somewhere in the normal range (about 4.5″-7″ erect). As I’ve mentioned before, most of the woman’s pleasure-sensing nerve endings are in the outer portion of the vagina, so even a 3″ erection will be able to do the job. The other point worth mentioning is that penis growth is a part of the changes during puberty, and while this may be as big as you get, it’s likely you’ll grow at least a little bit more before you’re done. I’d say that, by 16-18 years old, you’ll be done with puberty, and at that point, you’ve got all you’re going get. Finally, you (and any one else who feels inadequate out there) should take some heart in the old saying, “it’s not the size of the boat, it’s the skill of the skipper,” which any experienced woman will tell you is true.
Q: I like to get head from my girl, but after I cum, my dick seems to stay hard for a while. It doesn’t do this after I’ve had sex, it usually starts to gradually go limp, what could that be, and is it normal?
A: It’s normal. There is a medical condition called priaprism, which is basically an erection that is not sexually stimulated, lasts for a long time, and is painful. Priaprism is treated as an emergency, because the penis may not be getting any ‘fresh’, nutrient-rich blood. Fortunately, though, you don’t have priaprism. There are a number of things that factor in to how the penis behaves during and after sex. How quickly you regain an erection, or never even lose it in the first place, depends on: how recent your last orgasm was, how young you are, how physically stimulated you are, and how mentally/emotionally ‘turned on’ you are. I can’t say exactly why you’re experiencing what you’re describing, but rest assured that nothing’s wrong.
Q: I am circumcised, and find it a bit harder to masturbate, because my penis head is so sensitive. Any tips or tricks on how to pleasure myself without hurting my head?
A: The tissue that’s removed during a circumcision, called the foreskin, is actually very densely innervated, which means that it is very sensitive to sexual (and other) stimulation. Arguably, having the foreskin removed should make the penis less sensitive. (It’s tough to compare, though, since most people who get circumcised are very young, and grow up not knowing anything else). This has, in fact, led to a big push for less elective (non-religious) circumcisions, especially in the U.S. I only mention this to clarify the misconception, held by many people, that an uncircumcised penis is less sensitive, when in fact the opposite is probably true. The reason you’re noticing such high sensitivity is that two of the most sensitive parts of the penis (the underside of the head and the ridge on the back of the head) are completely exposed on a circumcised penis. I guess my only tip would be to use some sort of lubrication ? Vaseline, KY, hand lotion, shampoo, or something similar ? and make sure you don?t ?dry out? while masturbating. Also, if the skin becomes chaffed or raw (or it is already) take a break for a few days and let the skin heal up before resuming.
Q: I have been having sex with my girlfriend and she has a yeast infection and genital warts, now my hair around my testicle is red looking do I have anything?
A: Only your doctor will know for sure. I suggest making an appointment ASAP. If you were not using anprotection, the chances are VERY high. If you were using a condom then you could still get either by the fluid from the vagina getting on you through skin-to-skin contact where the condom is not or through you touching an infected area and then touching anything else. You should be aware you are engaging in a very, very high risk behavior. I hope that your girlfriend is seeking treatment for both the yeast infection AND the genital warts. Prolonged infection can led to much more serious problems. I am puzzled why either of you are engaging in sex at this point until all health concerns are cleared up and until you know how to deal with STDs and STIs. Since you are anonymously asking, I would say neither of you are prepared for the responsibly of having sex.
Q: At 11, do you have semen?
A: At age 11, while you may or may not yet be producing sperm (mostly likely, you aren?t), you will still have other fluids that make up semen. Most of semen is not sperm. If you?re asking if you can get someone pregnant at 11, the answer is likely no. However, you also shouldn?t be having sex at 11.
Q: My boyfriend is uncircumsized and we are really serious. We have been together for almost 2 years. I have read so articles about guys that aren’t “cut”. They said that the sex could be bad or could be painful and I just want to know if this is true.
A: Being uncircumcised shouldn’t really affect sex too much. The foreskin is loaded with nerve endings, and therefore is probably very sensitive during sex for most guys. It may make him finish a bit quicker than he would if he was circumcised, but that varies a lot from guy to guy, so I’m reluctant to make generalizations. But in that regard, I could see sex being a little ?worse,? though there are certainly plenty of circumcised guys with the exact same problem. I also doubt that sex will be any more painful for either of you because of his foreskin. Taking it slowly at first and making sure you?re ready (i.e. adequately lubricated) and the condom is lubricated (K-Y or other water-based lube) will minimize the pain for you. The only way I could see sex being painful for your boyfriend is if his foreskin has developed adhesions to the head of his penis, or if his foreskin gets pushed back and ?stuck?. But most likely, the sex will be pretty much the same as if he were circumcised.
